Household Meal Adapter
One plan for the whole table: the same meals for everyone, with each person’s plate adjusted where they need it. About 5 minutes.
Best for: cooking for two to eight people with different needs, for example a parent with diabetes, a partner cutting salt, a vegetarian teenager and a four-year-old. You cook once; the plan shows where each plate differs.
Set it up
- On the start screen, tap My household, then Start planning.
- Your household.
- Choose how many people you’re cooking for, including you. Amounts are scaled for everyone.
- Fill in You: sex for guideline ranges, your health focus (and a second one if you like), your diet, allergies and intolerances. Tap Done.
- Tap each other person to fill in their card: a name (optional), their age (adult, under 4, 4–8, 9–13 or 14–17), a health focus if they have one, diet, allergies and intolerances. Someone with no health focus simply shares the meal.
- Your week. The plan length (7, 14 or 30 days) and which meals to plan; where each person has lunch on weekdays (home, packed lunch or eats out; lunch is only planned and bought for the people having it); how many dinners are cook once, eat twice, 15-minute dinners or eating out (it starts at 0); and how leftovers are eaten.
- Time and budget. The max cooking time, the budget level and an optional weekly food budget for everyone.
- What your table eats. The cuisines your table enjoys (each shows how many meals it adds); anything someone won’t eat, typed on their line (kept off their plate, or left out of the plan if nobody eats it); and foods your table loves.
- Before we plan. The questions are optional and add warnings: does anyone have kidney disease, use insulin or other medicine that lowers blood sugar, is anyone pregnant, or has anyone had an eating disorder? Choose whether the plan starts today or tomorrow, tick I understand this is general guidance, not medical advice, then tap Generate my plan.
Only want ideas for now? On the first screen, tap Browse meals for your household by cuisine to see which meals suit everyone, without making a plan. Save the ones you like.
Find your way around the plan
- Along the top: the plan and who it’s for, Edit household, Shopping list, Need a meal now? and More. A count shows how many meals are shared and how many need a separate part.
- View: Day (one day, with a line for each person showing how the day fits them), Week (the whole plan as a grid) or By cuisine.
- Each meal says whether it’s shared, whether it fits everyone’s guides, any prep for tomorrow, and either “Everyone has the same plate” or what changes for whom.
Open a meal
Tap Open to see the meal for the whole table:
- Plates: what goes on each person’s plate. For example a smaller scoop of rice for one person, the low-sodium soy sauce added at the table for another, tofu in its own pan for a vegetarian, and a child’s portion cut small.
- Cook it: the steps for the whole meal, step by step, including the extra pan when someone needs one.
- Nutrition and score: how the meal fits each person’s focus.
- How was it? 👍 or 👎, and Not up to cooking? for an easier option tonight.
On the plan, each meal also has Swap, Move to…, Skip and Done. See Things every plan can do for these, the shopping list and the tools under More.
Tips
- Someone joins or leaves for a few days, or a child starts school dinners? Edit household changes it without starting again.
- Children under four get tips such as halving small round foods; check each plate’s notes.
- More → Share this plan with your household gives everyone the plan on their own phone: the meals, their plate, the steps and amounts. They tick meals as done and rate them, and it comes back to your plan. It shows what to serve, never why.
- The shopping list is for everyone. Share this list with your household so whoever is at the shop sees the same list; a shared plan links to it too.
- More → Browse meals by cuisine shows other meals that suit your table, to swap in or save for later.
